Stop Believing These Lies About Audio Production

Writer: jgoeh1jgoeh1

If you’re diving into the world of audio production, chances are you’ve heard some questionable advice.

There’s a lot of noise out there (pun intended), and if you’re not careful, you might fall for myths that waste your time, money..... and sanity.

So, let’s bust three of the biggest lies about audio production.

1. “Expensive gear guarantees great audio.”

Let me guess: someone told you to drop a fortune on a fancy microphone because “it’ll make you sound professional.”

Spoiler alert: it won’t. At least not if your room sounds like an echo chamber.

Great audio starts with a treated space, not a $3,000 mic. A $400 mic is easily adequate, and even a mic in the $100-$200 range can be a good choice in the right room.

Blankets, foam panels, or even recording in your closet can make a budget mic sound like a studio setup. Save your money for additional sound treatment, or, hey, anything that makes you happy, really.

2. “Editing is optional.”

If you think you can record an audiobook or podcast in one flawless take, bless your confidence... but it’s not going to happen.

Unedited audio is messy, full of stumbles, awkward pauses, and maybe even a dog barking in the background.

Editing is non-negotiable.

It’s what turns your raw recording into something polished and professional. Learn basic tools like cutting, leveling, and noise reduction.

Or, outsource the job if you’d rather focus on recording. Either way, don’t skip this step!

3. “Podcasts will succeed overnight.”

Here’s the truth: even the most viral podcasts took time to build an audience. If you’re expecting instant success, you’re setting yourself up for disappointment.

Treat your podcast like a long-term project. Consistently release great content, engage with your audience, and be patient. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither is a loyal listener base.

There you have it—the biggest lies about audio production, debunked. Don’t let bad advice steer you off course. Focus on the basics, invest wisely, and remember that growth takes time.

You’ve got this... and reach out if you need anything!
